About Me

Flute3e

Upon gaining a place to study at Cardiff University, I was excited by the various challenges which I would face, but felt really excited by the performance opportunities and experiences I became involved with. I continued studying the flute with Roger Armstrong (Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama) and soon began performing as a soloist and within ensembles as part of the University’s lunchtime concert recital series, along with larger groups such as the University Chamber Orchestra, Contemporary Group and Symphony Orchestra. In 2002, I was one of the winners of the University’s concerto final and gained the opportunity to play Reinecke’s Flute Concerto in D major with the University’s Symphony Orchestra at City Hall, Cardiff.

I also went on to play with orchestras such as, the Welsh Philharmonia and South Wales Sinfonia, as well as collaborating as a soloist with the Cardiff Polyphonic Choir and Swansea Bach Choir as part of the Gower Festival. I also performed as a Concerto soloist with the Aldworth Philharmonic Orchestra and have formed a flute and harp duo with fellow student, Shelley Fairplay. Whilst at University, I also discovered an interest in historical performance on the Baroque flute.

After graduating from Cardiff University with a 2:1 BMus(Hons) and winning the David Evans Memorial Prize for academic achievements, I went on to work with gifted pupils in Music at Wells Cathedral School in beautiful Somerset and completed a Post-Graduate Certificate of Education in Secondary Music with The Open University.

Currently, I work as a freelance musician and Music teacher. My musical interests have also led me to volunteer with the Royal National Institution for the Blind as a Music Transcriber to help partially-sighted Musicians continue their music-making.
